The Land

• Ontario is the second largest province after Quebec and is located in the Eastern part of Canada. The capital city is Toronto. Ontario's motto is " Loyal she began, loyal she remains".  Niagara Falls, one of the wonders of the world, is located in Ontario and attracts thousands of tourists each year. Water covers about one-sixth of the province. Forests cover about two-thirds of Ontario. The Great lakes (Superior, Huron, Erie and Ontario) provide Ontario with a rich water supply. There are 250,000 lakes as well as numerous rivers and streams.

• Ontario's population is predominantly English speaking, however there are a large number of French speaking citizens as well. Ontario has one of the most diverse ethnic populations in the world through immigration. The provinces's population is over 13 million people in 2009. Over 80% of Ontario's citizens live in urban centers such as Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Windsor, Thunder Bay and St. Catharines. 
  
  The Economy
  
  
• Ontario's economy relies heavily on manufacturing. Major industrial products include motor vehicles, iron, steel, nickel, zinc, uranium, food and beverages, electrical goods, machinery, chemicals, petroleum and coal products as well as paper products. Service industries are only second in importance to manufacturing. Agriculture is also important with cattle, hogs and dairy farms.  Ontario is a major producer of lumber, pulp and paper. There are many vineyards in the Niagara region of Ontario, producing the wine we enjoy so much. Toronto has a financial district that includes the Toronto Stock Exchange.
